Maggie Dawson

The inspiration for my work comes in many ways; it may be the challenge of a print exchange, an exhibition or the response to a life event. The content is inspired by a deep love of the natural world, living a simpler life, and a regard for the multiplicity of life that surrounds me in my garden. I have a collection of natural objects ranging from sculptural seed pods to broken parts of insects to feed my curiosity at the amazing structures nature has built.

A chance comment while studying art led me into printmaking and then joining the Print Council of Aotearoa New Zealand which provided many opportunities to learn from experienced printmakers both national and international.

With a biology degree, a teaching certificate and an Honours Diploma in Art and Creativity I feel drawn to share my love of printmaking with the wider world.

My studio and its extension have made it possible to offer printmaking workshops and a space to meet and share with like minded artists.

My scientific background enjoys the technical side of things from mezzotint to colour mixing in a reduction lino print.

I have had the pleasure of seeing my work exhibited most recently in New York and also Japan, Spain and the UK as well as NZ.

The inspiration for my work comes from a deep love of the natural world, living a simpler life, and a regard for the multiplicity of life that surrounds me in my garden.
