Jacquie Goldsmith
For me creating art is like Running Away, Without Leaving Home.
As a contemporary ceramic and mixed media artist, inspiration comes from the context of my life, exploring relationships and the nature of human activity.
The action of mark making, application of layers of paint, slips, and glazes is intuitive and spontaneous. Process and gestural freedoms allow for some accidental effect or a chance occurrence to take place resulting in painterly, textured and richly nuanced surfaces to emerge.
Hand built ceramic works and substrates, platforms where raw energy and emotions are expressed in an abstract and sometimes literal manner, mark out a world affected by time and are my vehicles for storytelling.
Becoming established and recognised for unique and distinctive works, my unpretentious approach to making work reflects in the honesty of each piece as I continue to evolve.
The fascination of making work is the process of discovering new ways to express feelings and ideas that for me could not be expressed in any other way. I hold a Diploma (Honours) of Art & Creativity and have exhibited and sold work nationally, internationally and through galleries. I am represented by contemporary art gallery ‘ZeaYou’.
I work from home and am a member of the national body of Ceramics New Zealand.
