The inspiration for my work comes in many ways; it may be the challenge of a print exchange, an exhibition or the response to a life event. The content is inspired by a deep love of the natural world, living a simpler life, and a regard for the multiplicity of life that surrounds me in my garden. I have a collection of natural objects ranging from sculptural seed pods to broken parts of insects to feed my curiosity at the amazing structures nature has built.
A chance comment while studying art led me into printmaking and then joining the Print Council of Aotearoa New Zealand which provided many opportunities to learn from experienced printmakers both national and international.
Inspired by UK artists Deb Wing and Joshua Miles I have been using reduction linoprint in a less graphic, more informal way. Using transparent colours and multicoloured layers, spontaneously responding to the print as it comes of the press with each new layer
I have had the pleasure of seeing my work exhibited most recently in New York and also Japan, Spain and the UK as well as NZ.
